The Atlanta Bar Association Dispute Resolution Section has a long history of sponsoring the Edward J. Henning Memorial Award. This prestigious cash award is presented to an outstanding ADR student at each of Georgia’s five ABA-accredited law schools: Emory, Georgia, Mercer, Georgia State, and John Marshall. The award serves as a tribute to Ed Henning, a key figure in the mediation landscape of Georgia. Maggie Gilvin has been named the recipient of this honor for the University of Georgia School of Law.
Sharing insights into her background, Maggie remarked, “I am from Cleveland, Ohio. I attended Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana, where I received my bachelor’s degree. I worked aboard cruise ships and as a flight attendant before pursuing my JD. I will be working for a fantastic firm in Atlanta after graduation, focusing on labor and employment law.”
Maggie also expressed her perspective on mediation, stating, “I believe mediation is a fantastic alternative to litigation. By encouraging open communication between parties, mediation often leads to mutually agreeable solutions while avoiding trial. To me, the most beneficial aspect of mediation is the high potential to preserve the parties’ underlying relationship moving forward. Mediation is confidential and flexible, allowing parties to tailor their agreements to best suit their unique needs and interests.”
