Henning Mediation is proud to support the Edward J. Henning Memorial Award, presented by the Dispute Resolution Section of the Atlanta Bar Association. Each year, the award recognizes one outstanding student from Georgia’s top law schools who demonstrates a strong commitment to excellence in dispute resolution. This year, we are pleased to recognize Tiera Lloyd as the recipient representing Georgia State University College of Law.
Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Tiera attended George Mason University before pursuing her legal education at Georgia State. During law school, she has cultivated an interest in both litigation and transactional work, bringing a well-rounded perspective to her legal training.
Tiera’s passion for alternative dispute resolution was sparked during her 2L summer internship with State Farm’s Claims Litigation Counsel. In that role, she gained hands-on experience drafting motions, observing trial proceedings, and attending mediations—both in person and virtually. These experiences, combined with her ADR coursework, deepened her understanding of mediation’s vital role in the legal process.
Tiera shared that “mediation gives parties more control over the outcome, rather than leaving the decision entirely in the hands of a judge or jury. It also allows for more practical, forward-looking solutions and encourages parties to work toward a resolution that is mutually acceptable, rather than purely adversarial. In many cases, it can also be a more efficient and cost-effective way to resolve disputes. These skills are especially important in the insurance defense context, where resolving claims efficiently and fairly is a key priority.”
Following graduation, Tiera will return to State Farm, where she has accepted a full-time position. She looks forward to applying her experience and continuing to develop her skills in both litigation and dispute resolution.
