Each year, this award recognizes outstanding students from Georgia’s top law schools who demonstrate a strong commitment to the field of dispute resolution. Among this year’s honorees is Hannah King, representing Mercer University School of Law.
Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, Hannah earned her undergraduate degree in Business from the University of Florida before pursuing her legal education at Mercer. During law school, she has been an active member of Mercer’s arbitration competition team, where she further developed her passion for advocacy and alternative dispute resolution.
Hannah’s experience in arbitration has helped shape her perspective on mediation and its value within the legal system. As she explains:
Mediation is an incredibly important part of the legal process because it creates space for parties to resolve disputes efficiently, thoughtfully, and with greater control over the outcome than traditional litigation often allows. My experience competing on my law school’s arbitration team strengthened my appreciation for alternative dispute resolution as a whole and showed me the value of strategic advocacy outside the courtroom, and how both parties can benefit from mediation rather than a traditional litigation process where one party leaves unhappy and dissatisfied.
Her interest in mediation is particularly meaningful as she prepares to begin her legal career in labor and employment law with Lippes Mathias in Jacksonville. She recognizes the important role mediation plays in resolving workplace disputes, where practical outcomes and preserving professional relationships are often critical.
